Hancock County Artists Needed

St. Louis Bay Bridge Public Art Project

The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) is inviting artists to submit artwork for a Bay St. Louis Bridge enhancement project. Brass plaques will project the artist renderings, and will be attached to balustrades on the south side of the pedestrian lane along with 1/10th mile markers.

Twenty (20) selected works will be transposed from 2-dimensional contour line drawings to 3-dimensional brass plaques and finished in low relief brass. A $500 award will be offered for each selected drawing.

This will be highly competitive and submission requirements are listed below.

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Artists must be a current resident of Hancock or Harrison County and be at least 16 years old.
Artists may submit up to 5 pieces.
Artist's name must NOT appear on submissions. DO NOT SIGN WORK. Works are to be an original contour line drawing NO LARGER THAN 16"H x 22"W on 80# or heavier sketch paper that measures 18"H x 24"W (this will be the size of the finished plaque). The drawing is to be done in pen or pencil only; no color or shading.
All contact information is to be written on the application form which will be inserted into a self addressed, stamped envelope and attached to the drawing. There will be one submission form and envelope per drawing. DO NOT SEAL ENVELOPE!
ANY DEVIATION FROM THESE GUIDELINES WILL RESULT IN AUTOMATIC DISQUALIFICATION.

PROCEDURES

Deadline: No later than Monday, April 16, 2007, 5:00 P.M. (Office hours Monday - Friday 9: a.m. - 5: p.m.)

Delivery: The Arts office in the Hancock County Chamber of Commerce building, 412 Hwy 90, Suite 6, Bay St. Louis, MS. 228-467-9048

Judging: An independent panel appointed by the Mississippi Arts Commission will review all submissions and make the final selections.

Notification: Artists will be notified by mail (postmarked no later than April 30, 2007).
