Be Persistant

From Val:

Just like in business...nothing is a guaranteed sale..you just have to stay persistant. I would never send photos of work without first sending a letter and asking if they would like to see photos of my work. Mainly because some people do not like attachments being sent to them and will not open the email if they don't know who it is from and has an attachment.

It took me two tries to get with Ann Marie at IP she is busy and sometimes a phone call works better than an email.

I was merely trying to help you along with a contact name and get your foot in the door. The other thing is this website may get thousands of submissions or possibly the person is on vacation, or maybe they have a board that has to review. I sent my thing in to MS Magazine and it was 6 weeks before I heard from them and they are a small publication. So be patient!

Another trick when looking for venues is read my new column in Gulf Coast Observer and look at where artists say their work is being sold. Try those same places and see if they would be interested in having your type of art. Many times you will have someone pick you up and maybe drop you because it is not selling well. It is not a personal reflection it is because that is not what that particular store's customers aren't looking for that. I have mentioned several times that I (my store) has no experience dealing in original art. I am not a gallery ..so it is not the first place that collectors will go looking for original art. So Galleries are your first stop!

I love all of your work and would have every single one of you but don't have enough space and would not be able to be sole support for any of you. But if you get a store in each city or a big casino account or are represented by a large gallery then you have it made. The trick is to be very visible. Thru websites and every kind of promotion...this way more people see your work. You get help from Shaun Lea or Leslie can help you create a blog. Get a website Get Noticed.

I need to do the same sorts of things. But invariably I put it off I am not making artwork..but like you I am creating visual displays within my store, merchandising, answering the phone and a day goes by and the accomplishments are visible or they are still on the to do list!
